I'm looking to go there sometime this year but I haven't actually planned anything.

I'm thinking of moving there if I like it enough, they have some nice tax laws there if you run your own business.

In San Jose you can trade a pair of 501s for a young hottie.

We have some nice tax laws here if you run your own business too.
Unfortunately you have to be an immigrant from another country to take advantage of em ;)

But to get back on topic.

Costa Rica is supposed to be gorgeous according to my grandfather who moved there from spain when he was a smalll child and immigrated here back in 1917.

Least it was.
Things might have changed a bit since then though ;)

depends on where you are going.  the capital san jose has no beaches it's in the mountains.  there is world class fishing this time of the year on both the atlantic/caribbean coast and the pacific coast.  the pacific coast has some nice surf spots in puntarenas.  the places most tourists go to are limon, puntarenas and guanacaste.

in "96-"97, the ship i had contract on, Royal Princess was asigned on cruises through Panama Canal,  From San Juan to Acapulco , also FT.Lauderdale to LA, those cruises we used to stop in Limon on atlantic coast and Puerto Caldera/Puntarenas on west coast.  Nice beaches rain forest, luxury hotels but , once you are out in city the streets are dirty ,cheap girls, poor markets selling all kind of stuff in same place, the same flavour like Jamaica
