If you check out the link that Skuzzy put up (it's stickied) it explains a lot of the basics.
Say you're working on a P51D skin. In the Skins directory you'd make a sub-directory named "P51D_1" or any number up to "P51D_15". Put your bitmaps in here and it should show up offline.
