Mission Planner
« on: February 24, 2007, 11:53:10 AM »
Just having a few issues with the mission planner.

After checking the field I want to luach from has ord troops etc and FH's BH's as necessary, sometimes when i post a mission it says that one of my flights can't fly cos it has an invalid weapon set. Anyone else having this issue ?

Secondly I saved a mission template so it would be easier to post missions, but every time I load it it just will not work when I try to submit it ?

Perhaps because the map I saved the mission on was different to when I am loading it now ?  Anyway it would be a helluva lot easier if we could just save mission templates and load them on each map as we want to post missions. Either that or if you try to load a mission which you saved on another map, make it so its not visible on your "load Mission" screen if the map is different to when you saved it.

Thoughts ?

I don't have an issue with it, other than multiple fields should be able to be used.

You can't load 'saved' missions for some reason.  I posted on this under bugs but no-one has responded nor has it changed.  In order to run a mission, you have to start from scratch.

The way to post a mission is one plane at a time.  Create a plane set that you want, then 'save' it and 'submit mission'.  Once the system takes the mission, then 'edit' mission, and add your next plane set.  Keep repeating this process, one plane at a time, until you have everything in you want.

What you don't want to do is create a 5+ plane set and try to submit them all at once.  Invariably there is a problem with one,  ie. invalid weapons set, or 'no ordinace at airfield', then you have to start ALLLLL OVER from scratch again...grrrr..

You'll find there are some minor glitches as well.  For example, if you change airfields after you have submitted mission, some of your planes might launch from hangers...don't know why, but they do.  (then mission guys will say 'dude, you launched me from hanger')

Good luck.

The only missions I've been able to re-load are those that have a single flight on them.

From what I've been able to gather HTC's position is you build a single mission for a single flight.

If you want more flights, you build a new mission for each one. ( you can submit multiple missions )

Any usage outside of those paramaters is obviously not in line with the way things are supposed to work from now on.

Yup, it's porked.

Oh yeah.. if you want to remember who is in your mission after you launch, you have 2 minutes after launch to change the launch time so the mission won't be deleted.

Just as a point of clarification as I understand it.

A mission can have a number of different flights in it.  However, for any one mission, ALL planes lift at the SAME TIME from the SAME BASE.

If you want to use different bases, or different times, you have to make separate missions for each.  I've tried this with some success.  I will title it like this

1.  Capture 29 (Bombers)
2.  Capture 29 (fighters and jabos)

Though its kindof tough just getting guys to join one mission, two makes it a bit harder.  If you are new to running missions, I'd recommend you start with just one.

They should fix the bugs then loading a "saved mission" would be much less time consuming as all you would have to change would be airfield and time.

As I have already picked which aircraft I would like in my mission it would take me a lot less time to post a mission.

^ yeah, u'r right.

Once you get practiced at loading missions you can do it in seconds flat...so it doesn't bother me as much as it used to, but it woud be more convenient.

You also need a good while from the moment you say 'MISSION POSTED' to when people can join ie, land kills or bail to join ur uber mission:D So u'll kindof have some time 'sitting on your hands' anyway.

One thing I also found helpful if you can do it, but tell people to HOLD ON RUNWAY.  What happens is over about 1-2 minutes, people will join in sporatically.  If you all take off right when you spawn, your mission will be spread out over miles.

Another think, if you are doing NOE captures (110's below dar to blow out town), have your goon(s) take off first and have everyone else wait.  Otherwise, if you all go at same time, the goons are way behind.  You'll have town down, 110's will be circling and every enemey  and their brother will be upping looking RIGHT for the goons coming in late.....grrrr

For some reason HITech Creations moved away from what was a much more powerful mission planner to what we currently  have.  the old planner allowed you to stager flight takeoff times and to assign specific Altitudes and routes for each flight.

I questioned HC about the change in mission planner when it occured and he informed me that the changes were made because the majority of user complained about the complexity of the old style mission planner.  So they dumbed  it down.  I think the old style mission planner was a better tool.  I also did a search on the BBS on Mission Planner  and didn’t find a mass of complaints .  So I guess all the complaints were mailed in by Snail Mail.

Anyway we are stuck with the tool we have.  As for getting people to join Missions that’s just a hit or miss thing.  But when I first started flying Aces High, I was told that Rooks were the best for doing and joining missions, Bishops next and Knights last.  Not sure that’s true or not, but that’s what I was told.

It would be an interesting stat.  If a flight was part of a mission.  They don’t keep any mission stats.  I miss the sheep.

Don't get me wrong I'm not trying to bash the tool we have, I suppose in the main I am just looking for the more convenince side of things.

A template for people who have just started to plan missions like myself would save a great deal of time, its very annoying when you plan out a mission taking maybe 5-10 minutes and then it either bugs OR something happens to ord/troops at the field you're at and you have to start from scratch!!
