We used to have the 1942/3 Vc with the uber boost.
It wasn't 3 mins, it was 5 mins.
This was ONLY a guideline.
The proviso was if they exceeded 5 mins they had to tell the crew chief so extra checks could be made on the engine, and this applies to ALL spits.
Pilots regularly exceeded the 5 mins guideline, the longest one I am aware of was a pilot being chased by 3 x 109's running WEP for
35 mins.Goes back to how Rolls Royce tested the Merlins/Griffons -
1) Run it to destruction
2) Redesign/strengthen the part that failed
3) Go back to step 1
