I'm unhappy with my current desk setup. I have a traditionial flat topped desk with a keyboard tray underneath. Right now I have my keyboard in the center, throttle quadrant to the right, joystick to the left, and mouse to the left of the joystick. This setup is somewhat uncomfrotable.

I've tried putting the throttle/joystick on the keyboard tray, but the tray itself doesn't feel sturdy enough, plus the controls are not at a comfortable position, regardless of how I adjust my chair.

I've thought about modifiying my chair with two platforms, but then I think I'll run into the desk with them or be too far back from the monitor.

I ran across the Command Center while checking out CH Products site.

http://www.chproducts.com/retail/command_center.html

Thats what I want! Except I'm sure as heck not going to pay $500 + shipping for the desk. They do have a PDF with the complete dimensions, so I could make one myself. I'm fairly handy with powertools. I would make the top flat rather than having the stands for multiple monitors, and put a standard keyboard tray where the platform for the yoke is. Otherwise, I think its pretty much what I'm looking for.

That got me to thinking ... surely someone has already built their own "Command Center" and might be willing to share pics/diagrams or suggestions from past attempts.

Any input?

Here's my must have in a desk .

Wide plus DEEP , it's got to have depth so that the monitor keyboard has enough room .

Open underneath , the closed up ones with drawers are too hot for 8 hours at a time .

You have to have arm rest for you stick and throttle , for those that don't use them they really are nice and help aim also on the throttle side .

===

So the command center fits all but the last one , no room for arm rests . I got this desk at Staples it was just over 100 dollars , I added the arm rests as I never could find one that was deep enough for a 21 in CRT plus the arm resting on the desk .

I hadnt thought about adding armrests to my existing desk, that would solve the uncomfortableness (is that even a word??). The desk is plenty deep, so there is room to put a couple books on the desktop itself. I'll give that a shot before I break out the power tools and Lowes card.

Thanks!

I have something that I was working on a few years ago when I first got my Cougar but never built it. Also I am looking at a few other things now that I will use in a roll away setup for just this sort of thing. There are plenty of ideas in this board for what people have used several times.

The CH desk certainly looks interesting but it appears to me that the two wings for the throttle and stick are too wide apart although I do like the fact that they're lower.  I'd think ideally that the stick and throttle should be aligned just outside of your thighs, or you could put the stick directly in front of you with the throttle to one side.  Someone posted a picture here showing two platforms mounted to the front of his chair's armrests.  That looked like a good solution.

I just looked at the "office" chair I use at my desk. Nice solid flat underside begging me to use a some steel I have to make a "dumbell" type arrangement for platforms - ideally detachable to avoid conflicts when using the chair "normally". Once I suss out a good way of fast and secure attachment and removal this is a very real possibility. Will post any solution I find!
