Hi folks,
DirectX is NOT uninstallable. It makes too many changes to your system files and registry particularly the runtime DLLs.
All this is stated in the read-me file when you download it
You have to format your drive to actually remove it and start fresh,IF you have a corrupt registry and cant fix it any other way. That is a last resort however, and you should be able to reinstall it as necessary. Try going to the DirectX download site and getting the FULL version of DX7a, NOT the upgrade. Then uninstall all of your video drivers and control software. Reboot to the Standard VGA Driver(it will look ugly
) and clear the registry of all references to your video drivers. Now install the full version of DX7a and reboot. Now reinstall your video drivers following the manufacturers instructions.
Sounds like a real pain but improper installation of video drivers or switching without following these steps EVERYTIME is one of the most common causes of problems with systems in general and DirectX in particular
If this doesnt work then you need to consider formating the drive and reinstalling Windows.
Good Luck!
BTW, at
www.tweak3d.net you will find a complete set of step-by-step instructions to do this in their optimization guides.
