How to use up to date drivers?
« on: October 16, 2001, 02:04:00 PM »
I just downloaded Nvidia's new 21.83 drivers for my GeForce 2 MMX 400 video card. The download file was self-extracting and installed it on my hard drive. How can I be sure that my vid card is using these new drivers and not my old ones? Do I have to delete the older drivers? ANy advice would be helpful.

Thanx,
firemn

go to control panel, display, and look for an information tab, there you should something like 4.01.13.2183 the 2183 or whatever you see will tell you what drivers are loaded. Usually its best to remove the old drivers first but the self extracting drivers should have taken care of everything.

The self extracting drivers DO NOT remove the old ones I believe.  They overwrite.  I would suggest you remove your drivers for the video card(ALL OF THEM) and then run the exe for the new one again.

What I do is:
control panel
add remove programs
  - remove nVidia drivers that you will see in the list
click OK
control panel
system
device manager
display adapter
change
show all devices
choose, STANDARD PCI VGA DISPLAY ADAPTER
follow the steps
reboot
Once she's up and running again, run the 21.83 installer
