Object tile and objects problem
« on: February 28, 2007, 01:42:03 PM »
So,
I made the tile in OE, placed all objects, built ok, no errors.Copy all of the objects from userlib folder to texsrc folder including the .shp from newshapes.
Open the map, then reopen it and hmm - everything is ok with tile except that all the house objects are missing.Trees and other objects are there just fine, but all of the houses seems missing.
When i place the individual house object on the map it shows, but those on the tile mysteriously don't.

Anyone else had this problem before, any help appreciated.

My issue was not selecting "Is Square Tile Object" and "Display Terrain Under Tile". Yet I don't believe this is your issue. Could be a new mysterious bug.

Are you drawing the houses before you draw the ground cover?

Optimize the .til file by arranging the largest objects at the beginning followed by progressively smaller ones. You can use Notepad but a spreadsheet is easier to sort. As always, work on copies, protecting your original work.
Easy in-game again.

No, sorting is not what's causing the problem.Even tried placing the objects on a new clean tile, just with those objects.

I have noticed a simularity to this problem.  Placing objects onto a
ground that has elevation, such as buildings only the rooftops were
visable, or they disappeared all together. I am trying to learn how
to change their elevations or verticies before placing them.

Trial and error at this time, unless someone knows the how to.

DLfrmHLL, are you using the TE (Terrain Editor) or the OE (Object Editor) to place the houses that are disappearing into the hills?

The TE is what i am using, seems this tool is the only one with verticle lift.

Trying to get objects flush on top the higher ground I am changing "Z" value.

Is there a list of object veticie heights or is it just visual alignment,
with trail and error?

Trying also to make a supply convoy using DE ships shapes instead of
river  barges, guns not needed but would be nice to raise some up to
the decks and place them.

In past maps i,ve made There were "Ghost Ships" that were displaced
from their fleets when i moved them. Didn't see them for months later
they would roam the map alone and shoot at the enemys. Later I
realized getting to close to these will crash the game too. This I may
also try to do on purpose this time ?

Also I know there must be a method to see or use more objects in
the OE list as I realize not all of AH objects default to this list

DLfrmHLL, you should use the OE when trying to make towns or just placing houses around your terrain. Placing them in the TE will occasionally work, yet it causes major bugs and sometimes will result in AH crashing when the terrain loads.

Even if the houses look as if they're under a hill after you place the "built" shape from the OE, AH will remove any object colliding with the OE tile when the game loads, so just go with the OE, it's easier, and causes less bugs.
