It Won't Go Away!!!
« on: March 10, 2007, 10:06:43 AM »
Hi Forum Guru's: Need help with my computer.
P4800-E Deluxe, 3.0 GHz, 250GiG Drv., 2.0 GiG Ram, Nvidia 7800 Vid.
When I start up the unit, at the desk-top a panel appears, Microsoft Picture it! Publishing 2001. It states-Please wait while Windows configures Microsoft Picture it!
Then another Panel pops-up-Insert the Microsoft Picture it! Publishing it! Publishing 2001 Disk.
I did this but an error pops up during active D/L.
The only way I can stop this is using Cntrl/Alt/Delete. This keeps happening every time I boot up, I have tried removal via Add/Remove, but it says file not found.
When I first got the program, I tried installing it but an error showed up during install, tried & tried but it will not work, NOW I can't delete this MONSTER.
Would appreciate help & guidence in removing it.
Thank you.

Reinstall OS and steer away from any Microsoft related application, especially MS Works or picture IT. The latter actually did you a big favor by bugging out - it's the worst piece of junk I've ever seen under the label of photoediting. Even if you would have managed to install it, it wouldn't have worked in reality.

It's just horrible software. Horrible.

You don't need to format necessarily, just do a complete reinstall over the old OS telling the install to 'completely replace the current operating system files'.

That should do the trick and you can still keep your files on the harddrive.

Thanks Rip- tried that once, it said newer OS is installed, the disk is Windows XP without ALL the update. Is this OK to proceed on the older one?

Yep you can't do a 'repair' on the OS you have to do the complete reinstall because your install CD lacks the service packs.

But that's ok, only trouble is that you need to reinstall any programs which are coded so crappily that they require registry entries to work.

If you need a great working no-hassle photoediting software I can recommend AcDSee powerpack for the job. It's lightweight and simple for the task.

I have a new 250 gig WD Hard Drive which I formatted & installed WXP,
no S2 or updates, can I mount this in my computer as a secondary drive &
move the files I want from the Old drive to the new one?
I did move the jumpers for Master & Slave BUT the computer would not boot up?
There must be a secret to the jumpers or set-up in the bios?
Any thoughts on this?
Thank you for your patience, but I am frustrated with my problem:furious

chk cables, chk power connectors
if that doesn't work, unplug DC/DVD rom and connect HDU true this cable using second IDE channel

sometimes even if you set master/slave correct ,  some brands of HDU don't cooperate on the same IDE channel

oh, one more

sometimes, old motherboard have fixed HDD settings, all what you have to do is go to bios and set hdd properties to auto detect or just auto

Oh well, I'll try something you or others suggest:)
I will--I will--I will succeed:O
Thanks again.

If you haven't already killed your installation, google for a utility called "CCleaner".  That could help.  CCleaner is a complicated program but if you accept the defaults (just keep clicking ok), it should help without making anything worse (since you consider what you have to be intolerable).  Also from the start - run menu, run "msconfig", go to the startup tab, and if you see anything that looks like an installer, un-check it.

Even with the older winXP cd, you can still do a repair installation.  I've done it twice.  Just run the windows setup as if you're doing a normal full installation and when it it detects the old windows installation, tell it to install in the same location (usually c:\windows).  It should then ask you if you want to do a fresh install or a repair install.  Choose the repair installation and there is a good chance it'll save your currently installed programs.
Everyone I know, goes away, in the end.

I dont know if anyone mentioned this..It is still early and I am just waking up..But whenever I delete a program or such,I always go into my computers search engine and search for it..and then delete that stuff..It is amazing what some of these programs leave behind,as well as where...
