My parents recently took the plunge into a new TV. The ole 27" GE from 1981 finally started to fade to the point they couldn't take it anymore.
So they selected a nice Phillips LCD (37"), 1080i...nice TV for their needs. Thing is, the speakers on the TV are lousy. We expected this from the reviews we'd seen...but wow, these things are pingey.
Here's my pinch: They'd like to keep the audio budget to $500.
The LCD TV has a single HDMI connection that's available.
The HD Cable Receiver has an HDMI connection (out). Its connected to the TV via the 5 connectors (component).
They already have a DVD player that's newer (not HD/BluRay)....but fine for their uses. I'd like to find something minus the DVD player. With BluRay and HD being up in the air, I dont see them buying either of those media for now.
The bundle systems Ive seen on Sears, Best Buy and Circuit City have lacked HDMI.
I've spent the past hour or so reading various cNet reviews on receivers. After a while, I just got tired of reading em all and thought Id post here for some input. (This place is excellent for digital photography advice...and claiming to be things you arent!)
I suspect the best way to go is with a DTS/6.1 receiver and a decent speaker package.
Any suggestions!
