New Computer - big problems
« on: March 15, 2007, 12:56:06 AM »
Hey all,

I've got a new puter (thanks to my lovely and beautiful wife - SWOMBO wanted a faster puter too)

I've got:
- XFX Geforce 7600 GT 256MB PCI-E XXX Edition (590MHz) video card
- Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4200+ CPU
- 2Gb ram (yeee HAW!)
- XP SP2. Patched up the wazoo.
- DirectX 9.0c (I think)
- Audgy 2 ZX. Latest drivers.
- DXDIAG info available
- nutten running in tasktray (sound icon, and nVidia tasktray icon. But I turn off AVAST antivirus before I play.
Here are the Video Settings I can get it to work ok, but with frequent CTD:
- preloads are checked on
- 1440x900 video
- framerate unlimited
- Hardware Vertex Processing doesn't work. Causes CTD.
- Optimize Objects and Terrain when checked causes weird graphical effects and eventually CTD or freezing.

When I run Aces High, I pretty much have to run it with all the graphic options turned off and it doesn't run that fast like I've seen on slower machines than mine.  I still get the odd CTD, and get around 5-10 minutes of play before it pooches in, both offline and online.

Anyone else have this issue?

I have same video card running in SLI mode.

Running 1280x960? Res

Check your video driver version.  Any 9x.xx driver is no good for AH.

84.66 seems to be the best for AH.

Also try 256 textures.  I get lock ups especially in GVs at 512 or 1024.

Hardware vertexing should work, it takes a load off the processor.

Check your bios to make sure PEG is enabled and at the highest setting.

I have max detail on terr and objects enabled.

I've got everything maxed out on my 7600 GTS, sliders at max, shift F1 in game, all goodies have their check boxes enabled. The only thing I can think of is you have bad drivers, or maybe AH doesn't like your super wide screen settings?

Definitely try 84.66. Most of us 7600 users find them the best. I myself have tried a number of other drivers and always return to 84.66 because it seems the best.
