Vacationing in Florida cheaply?
« on: March 29, 2007, 04:36:38 AM »
My buddies and I would like to go to Florida this June for a week.  I'm a scuba diver, and they like to snorkel and hang out on the beach.  However, all the beachside hotel and motel prices are atrocious- $125 to $150 a night.

How can we spend a week in Florida relatively cheapy?  When I went to the beach in Wilmington NC, I saw multiple motels within a few hundred yards of the beach for $35-40.  Are there any like this in Florida?

nope - not on the water

you may find a Motel 6 in Ocala in that price range but be sure to bring the roach spray.
There is a reason their slogan states: "We'll leave the Light on for You" :)

$125.00-$150.00 is cheap.  a nice room in a nice establishment is easily three times that.

Aquashrimp, you could get a six man tent and go to one of the KOA's... there are a couple in Keys - Key Largo and Fiesta Key.  (It is still relatively cool...  I'd never do this in the summertime.)  They have showers and fresh water pools too.  If the Oceanside is too rough to get out, you would have the option of diving the gulf side which is always calmer.
