DX8 Warning
« on: January 02, 2001, 10:37:00 PM »
I made the jump to DX8 and am sad I did. Here's what happens:

I have P933 with a GEForce 2 GTS running Detenator 3 drivers. I should have held for Det 4 drivers to work with DX8.

Now, I often get the planes disappearing when diving on them and a strange "diagonal wipe" effect, where the screen redraws and the cockpit shows slightly overlapping versions of itself and it corrects itself diagonally drawing from right to left.

These weren't issues pre-DX8 at ALL. They completely conincide with installing DX8.

Caveat emptor.

Contrary to the common view, you can uninstall directx.  There are several programs, here's one, although I haven't tried this one:

I have DirectX 8 and Det 7.17 (which hasn't been released, but is on the web) Everything seems to work OK... with only one minor problem... when gunning on a ship every once in awhile the explosion colors stay on the screen until you fire the next round.

Yep... good advice Spatula... it became obvious that Direct X 8 and the vid drivers I was trying was causing more problems than solving. Formatted and reinstalled the whole dang OS after giving up trying to pry Direct X 8 off my system. Went back to 7.0a and presto magic... no more lockups in the last 10 hours in AH. I don't think that has happened before.
