Thanks mate. I think black bars are going to be better than having top/bottom of views clipped. Please let me know how you go with that.

I didn't buy the monitor to enhance AH. More to give me back some real estate on my desk AND all that lovely Windows desktop space to fill with video and sound editing windows!

How about refresh rate? They seem to be low on most LCDs. Isn't that reducing the overall FPS in the game? Does it need to be looked at when choosing a new LCD monitor

Vertical sync lock has nothing to do with the performance of the game. AH won't run any faster with vsync off and pushing 200+ fps compared to locked 60fps.

All that matters is that your system is able to push that 60fps reliably in any given situation. When the framerate drops below 30 the game will feel sluggish and choppy.

I was in same situation Oct. 2006. My monitor was going out and needed a new one. CRT vs LCD?. I researched it alot. Never had a LCD before, always liked the CRT. I couldn't come up with a really good CRT and the reviews were good on the LCD. For the price it was the best gaming monitor.

I went with the Hyundai LCD L90D+   (234.52)
What a difference in picture quality.
1280x1024 8ms .294mm DVI-D

Refresh rate 60 Frame rate 60.

No regrets and would definitly buy another one. After having the LCD i would be hard pressed to go back to CRT.

Buy the way my old CRT was a Viewsonic A90F.

Performance and reliability imho still go with a good CRT Monitor.

CRT flickers.. it gets very annoying and stressful to the eyes especially if you work with computers and have to use a monitor 18 hours a day.
