Vidoe Drivers
« on: October 10, 2000, 09:24:00 AM »
I had to do a fresh reload of WIN98SE last week just before the con. After doing this I didnt have a chance to test it much as friday came pretty fast. Well I have read on this board that older drivers work best so I loaded the ones that came with the vid card which is a CL TNT2 Ultra, before I was getting 41 FPS now I get from 66fps to 100fps. So the theory works. WINME sucks dont try it. It is actualy slower for games but internet does run faster.

"WINME sucks don't try it"

I noticed your test appears to indicate that older video drivers work better than the latest ones, but I'm not sure how that translates into Windows 98 being worse for Aces High??

It might be the fresh reload of Windows 98 that is allowing you to get better frame rates??

Yep, that's what he means.  Windows ME is a big WASTE of money.  I can't think of any reason you would want it over 98SE.  It's slower, less stable, has a funny looking interface, no native dos support, and buggy.  (Did I miss anything.   )

I installed WinME two days ago to check it out. I had just begun installing all my stuff when I got my first Blue Screen of Death (TM).

One of the first things I installed was AH. AH almost systematically dumped me to desktop after alt-tabbing back from the desktop (where I was checking on RW or changing the display gamma settings). It dumped me everytime I opened a film in the film viewer. And everytime I quit AH I got an error.

I tried updating the video driver (TNT2 M64) with Detonator3 v. 6.22, but it didn't work.

The next day (last night) I reformated everything and went back to Win98SE and the video driver that works well for my Creative Labs 3D Blaster Riva TNT2 Value (Detonator 2 v. 5.22)
