Help with joystick calibration?
« on: October 25, 2001, 05:51:00 PM »
Anyone have tips for configuring the Logitech Wingman Extreme Digital 3D?

It's calibrated fine through its own software & Windows, and works great with other flight & non-flight sims I've tried ... but I can't seem to set it up right for AH.  The slightest TOUCH gets that 'Don't move your controls so rapidly' admonishment, and I find even straight, level flight nearly impossible.

I tried several configurations of the dead space & dampening sliders to no avail.

Hoping someone has met and solved this problem before.

Hello Dennis

I'm not sure about being able to use digital joy sticks in aces high.

Does your Logitech Wingman Extreme Digital 3D? have an analog switch on it.

I have a SW3dPro and can only set it up as a CH Flight stick with rudders.

I'm not much help  :(

I have heard that that sticks rudder control spikes , try setting the deadband alot higher than normal and see if it stops it . If it does time for USB Pedals or another brand of joystick .

OK.  I really like the look of this sim and think it has promise, so I broke down and bought a new joystick so I could get into it.

I checked some of the threads on joysticks, and bought one someone had recommended: the Saitek Cyborg 3D Gold USB.

But hey.  Same problem.  I literaly CANNOT TOUCH the stick, or it goes all kinds of ape sh*t on me.  Setting the dead zone and dampening to max have no apparent affect.

I've tried out a variety of flight sims over the past couple of weeks looking for one I like, and as I mentioned earlier, I don't have this issue with them.

Can anyone walk me through the proper setup for the joystick?  I'm obviously missing something if everyone else is able to play this game.

Nothing unusual about my PC setup that I know of. It's not top-of-the-line but it's less than a year old; Dell w/ PIII, 128mb, Rage128Pro, SoundBlaster, etc...

I have a Logitech Digital Extreme 3D.  I too was experiencing the spiking mentioned above.     It was definately the rudder axis causing the problem.

I finally broke down and bought a set of CH Pro Rudder pedals (love them).

As to your problem of not being able to touch the joystick, it sounds to me like you need to configure your joystick.  Go to setup | Joystick.  There's a box on the right hand side of the window in which you can see the input signal from your joystick.  You can use this signal window to configure your deadband and dampening values for each axis.

Before getting the rudder pedals, I used this feature extensively to get the deadband/dampening right for the rudder axis on the Logitech.

Good Luck
