I am simply referring to annoying **** like Quicktime, etc that simply start up at every boot. I use these programs rarely.

I recommend you spend some time in:
Control Panel --> Administrative Tools --> Services
(WinXP)
and study what all this stuff is that is starting up. You will probably find a bunch of junk that starts up that you don't give a hoot about. You should also take a look at "Add/Remove Programs" and see what you have installed. I'll bet there is junk installed that you don't want either. You'll be surprised what you find in there.
Actually, one of the advantages of setting up fsautostart is it forces you to analysize your machine for freeloaders.
