Issues with prediction/collision for me?
« on: March 26, 2007, 11:02:19 PM »
Having some issues with warping.  Addressed them before here, didn't do anything they just went away.  They went hand and hand with hits and kills at the time.  The more warping I saw, the less kills I could land with seemingly hard , long spurts with sparks flying - nothing.

They went away, for a bit.

Then - in the past couple weeks, many people including me have been noticing the opposing flyers warping like CRAZY.  Especially spits and germy planes.

Ok, so now goes again - very little kills - lotsa warping, everyone seemingly complaining about it.

Tonight.  Dead six, landing hits like crazy - no planes falling apart - no flames...nothing..

yet, they can turn on me - I watch them on my six while I try to get away, and for example - a hurri kills me in ONE little spurt.  Dead.  Again, same thing - spray and spray , hitting the guy like crazy.  Eventually gets the better of me due to my frustration, and pimp slaps me with a nano second spray.

Ok so I recruit my brother into this game.  Telling him how 'fun' it is. :)
We go onto a 8 player map and start tossing it down.  He's never played this game before but was able to six me in a superior plane.  He's firing and firing and I'm turning out of the bullets.  He stated he saw one or two sparks, and at those moments I heard DING DING, and saw damage on my wing.

(we were on the phone at the time together)

Ok so now I have him in my sights.  I'm firing and firing.  Deflection shots dead on - 10 or so sparks...you know..the shots YOU KNOW hit and you KNOW should make any planes wing just disintegrate.

NOTHING.

He says - I didn't hear any damage sounds.  Nothing.  In fact I didn't even see your tracers until I turned into them and expected to die and didn't even flinch.  No damage to his plane.

So my question is:
Is it possible that one clients collision/prediction code is fubard?
Is a 60ms ping time too much for such a close combat game.
Is the game registering only 1/10th of my hits when a plane zigs and zags, wildly (you know the ones, the REAL wild ones), almost knowing they will reduce their speed to nill and put themselves in a bad spot, yet they dont die to repeated hits - almost knowing this is an issue and exploiting it.

PART TWO
When I first started up to my first month end, I was able to hit about 50% of my bomb drops pretty nicely on tanks using fighters.  Took me awhile to realize that I should have taken larger bombs to land in kills, or at worst the craters showed up RIGHT next to the tank and I had them smoking.
Now, for the life of my - I can NOT land a hit.

IN FACT - there are NEVER any craters left behind when I pull out of the dive from dropping.

There is definetely something wrong here.  I'm completely convinced of it.  I guess I want to know what others are doing or, is it possible that one client could be bugged or - possibly the Hi-Res pack affecting this as it seems to have occured post that install?

Alt + R for record.  Record a film of every flight.  When you "think"you've recorded something significant review the film in slow motion, or post it here for others to review. If its legit, then send it in to HTC.

The Hi-res pack requires significatn resources, and can cause stuttering, and/or 'warping'.  Not really warping.  It is your computer pausing for periods of time due to being out of resources.  Simply change the "Maximum Texture Size", in the game's "Video Settings" to 512, or less and the hires pack will be ignored.

The Internet also comes into play here and is something no one has control over.  Every year, and it is like clockwork, during Spring break, or when schoool is out for any holiday, the Internet is less than stable.

For some reason people think the Internet has infinite bandwidth.  It doesn't.  Routers get swamped, they drop packets, they delay packets.

The closer you get to a plane, the more rapid the updates come.  So, when the Internet is a mess, the more likely a warp will occur as you approach a plane.

If client machines were not overloaded with processes that interfere with the game or used game selections which overloaded the capabilites of the hardware, and the Internet was perfect.  None of this would be an issue at all.

If you let your paranoia get the best of you, then you will not enjoy the game at all.  And there is a good chance you will ruin the fun for others.

Do a look up of FSautostart!!!!!!!!!!!

Download it and USE it!

Sounds like you may have something on your machine messing with you cpu time!  Get a good spyware prog etc and run from time to time BUT NOT while you
AH :D
It's been said we have three brains, one cobbled on top of the next. The stem is first, the reptilian brain; then the mammalian cerebellum; finally the over developed cerebral cortex.  They don't work together in awfully good harmony - hence ax murders, mobs, and socialism.

Not - Check.  It's on.

Balsy - I never thought of that.  GRRRRRRRRRRREAT IDEA!  (Ok now I'm feeling a bit stupid for not thinking of that myself!)

Skuzzy - my system more than handles it.  I mentioned this to someone before that mentioned that my card wasn't THAT great.  A 7600gt with 256 megs is far more than adequate for this game.  Sad that people don't realize that often they run out and spend another $500 to upgrade their video card for faster frames, only to find out when they realize, that it is their ram and cpu that are lagging them behind.
BUT anyway - yea this is more than capable.
AS IS the rest of my system, I can assure you.  I do NOT have  a sub standard computer, although I will admit I will never go AMD again as although with benchmarks its very fast if not faster than a comparable Intel.  Intel just seems to run correctly, fast, and smooth.

I feel like the AMD is running just as fast, but is taking the scenic route to get there.

I might have a CPU upgrade coming in the future but we shall see.

The bottom line is, this game doesn't even put a dent on my system.

No I am not downloading on this, or any computer in the house - while I am on Aces High.

I willl admit one thing however, since switching to Comsuck from Adelphia (forcebly through merger) - things have gone DOWNHILL quickly.

For awhile there, back before Aces High - I was having issues where I could barely surf the net let alone game.  Ever time I would call they would say "OH NO NO PROBLEM SIR, MUST BE ON YOUR END",,....
Meanwhile - neighbors are complaining of the same issues...zzz

Anyway guys - thanks for the input.  I"m definetely running with film on tonight!

The game can be very resouorce intensive.  There is not a computer built today that can run with all the resources set to maximum in Aces High II.

My guess, is you are just looking at the visuals and thinking it is a piece of cake.  I see many people make this mistake.

I happen to know a bit more about this game and its requirements than most people do.  Resource starvation has nothing to do with the power of the computer.  It has everything to do with resources available.  You run out of resources, which is easy to do in Aces High II, then the game runs poorly.  A faster computer just runs out of resources faster than a slower one does, because it can merrily allocate resources faster.

You asked about the hires texture pack.  I suggested you turn down the texture size and try it.  It cannot hurt to try it and see if the game runs smoother.

Have you messed with the "Graphic Detail" sliders?  Reset them to defaults and see if it helps.

If you really want to remove your computer from the warping equation, then just try my suggestions.  If nothing changes, then look somewhere else.

Get rid of your cable access and go DSL.  It may not be advertised as fast, but you are not at the mercy of a neighbor downloading the entire Library of Congress and sucking up your bandwidth.

I had Adelphia for one month and got rid of the worthless asses.  All my friends that have Comcast hate their guts.
