Helldiver was the replacement for the Dauntless, not the other way around.  It was newer, but had crappy handling so it was disliked.

Still, in AH terms it carries more than the Dauntless and has two Hispanos instead of two .50s facing forward.

There was an earlier SBC Helldiver biplane dive bomber, maybe he's
confusing the two?

The Helldiver IMHO would probably see quite some use in AH as a strike aircraft from the cv's. Lots of ordnance and 2 Hizookas you see....
Anyway, on that list, so many missing links for AH, and 11.000 Wellingtons, LOL :rofl
It was very interesting to carry out the flight trials at Rechlin with the Spitfire and the Hurricane. Both types are very simple to fly compared to our aircraft, and childishly easy to take-off and land. (Werner Mölders)

If my memory serves me, the SB2C Helldiver came BEFORE the SBD Dauntless. The fleet bombers were the SB2C and the (I forgot the name just as I typed this) torpedo bomber, replaced by the SBD Dauntless and the TBF/TBM Avenger. So, yeah, perhaps we are thinking of two different 'Helldivers'?

SB2C came after the SBD.

Just google it a bit.

Negative, negative.  You are thinking of the SB2U  That is what you are geting confused with here.  The SB2C, came after the SBD, as a replacement for it.

The SB2U was (I Think) the first monoplane dive bomber the US Fleet procured,  Wich got replaced by the SBD.  The SB2U got relegated to the Marines and training wings in 1940.  The last major action the SB2U saw was Midway.  The Marine Air Wing, on Midway, sent everything they had to strike the Japaniese invasion fleet wich included about 22 SB2Us.

See my post, which lists the sources.

I doubt that the data is perfect, but it is probably close enough to get a correct idea of relative production amounts.

I welcome any others who want to participate in this project to post corrections and -- most importantly -- to post verifiable sources of the corrections if there is better data.

Thanks for catching that.  It should be:

N1K Shiden (George), 1422

If you are spotting other errors, please point them out and, if possible, give data sources.

My interest in these numbers, by the way, is to get an idea of what planes were actually main components of WWII.  To me, if it was a plane that was a main component of WWII, it would be nice to have in the game -- even if it is less popular in the Main Arena than some late-war aircraft.

Also, I enjoy the special events (such as scenarios) enormously; and having the correct historical mix of aircraft in those is part of the fun.

Now THATs just freaking confusing!!! Why not name the SB2C something like SB3C then? lol. Thanks for correcting me.
