You can't just flip a switch in the game.. it's a setting you have to set before you take off.

I guess it's possible to change it back and forth each time you choose a new ride, but that just become a pane in the butt. So it would be great to be able to set defaults for the different groups of vehicles/planes.

I would prefer a check box in the hangar screen along with loadouts and/or convergence settings.

I saw an episode on the flying tigers on the History Channel where a Flying Tiger pilot, flying the P-40b, said that every 5th round of ammo was a tracer round.  This could be another option to choose when selecting the use of tracers.

the other half is so that you can sneak up on your opponent and fire away miss a bunch of times without your victim knowing your there because he doesnt see any tracer rounds

so yes. they are off for both you, and the enemy

I don't think so.  I run with tracers on and off depending on the day.  Even if I have tracers off, the nmy's tracers are on unless they turned them off (at least I am pretty sure.....)

I too would like a check box in the load out screen.  It's too many clicks to get there otherwise..

Oh my lord people...

Tracers off/on option only affects YOUR tracers, it does not make other players tracers invisible on your end. YOUR tracers are invisible on THEIR end.

In real life, most units stopped using tracers at various points in the war because-

A) Tracers give you away if your first shot is off target. As it almost always is.

B) Tracers give you away to everyone else in the enemy formation even if you do get the guy you are shooting at. Unlike in AH, most real pilots didn't charge around alone, and actually looked around once in a while.

C) Tracers have different ballistics than standard rounds, which means if you are using them to sight the 4 rounds in between may be overshooting or falling short.

D) Its just plain easier to load all those belts if every round is an API than if you have to count them and insert a tracer every fifth round.

Having the ability to select the ratio of tracers to API or other rounds needs to have limits. A Jug with 8 .50's and a pure tracer loadout = FRICKAN LAZER BEAMS.

funny thing is,when in an osti, with tracers off,the person shooting with osti doesn't see tracers but anyother GV's in the area do.... Not sure if they are seen by enemy A/C.... A squaddie and I were in osti's I had tracers off,yet he could see mine.He turned his off and I could see his.

Is this a glitch??? has it always been this way??  :O :O :O

I've had enemy come at me, tracers blazing, and others (most) without them, but with the gunports blazing. When you see the white trails going past your wing/canopy/whatever, that enemy has theirs enabled, and you see them. Regardless of whether yours are on or off, you'll only see them on other planes if that pilot has them on.

P.S. this is in the wrong forum.

I think that's what he said...

Treize, forgive me if this is so, but have I mis-read your post?

Looking at the wording, it seemed (when I read it) that you were saying my personal settings don't affect what the enemy sees, and that the enemy never sees my tracers.

If that was not the case then I'm sorry and will edit the post.

I fly with my tracers off for the stealth and aim factors but tracers do have some good points:
Pointing out GV's.
Helping clear a squadies six.
Dive bombing.

I'd like to put tracer rounds in only one set of guns, say my secondary.
That way I'd have'em if I need'em, but Icould still fire undetected.

Seeing as how the first 4 words of the statement are "Tracers on/off option", not "standard default visual effects"...

You really should try reading WHOLE posts sometimes instead of just every third word or so, you learn much more and generally make fewer inane and pointless responses.

I did read the whole post!

As I understood it, you were saying that toggling the tracers on or off under flight options doesn't affect what others see. The wording seemed to imply that, at any rate.
