Ok for the discos totally diff system to mine but i was getting discos by the bucket load.
"Seems" to have been cured for 2 days now and no discos, by reinstalling DX7.0a and changing AGP aperture from 64mb to 256mb in Bios.
Now if only my connect was as easy to cure

epilot,
another thing to check is to make sure you don't have any IRQ conflicts that could be causing your lockup. Check to make sure that your sound card isn't using a IRQ that something else is using. That could also cause your problem with lockups.

As far as the text buffer disapearing there isnt a toggle key to turn it on and off only one to make it big and small. Next time it disapears press the "~" key to make it big and see if it shows up. You can drag it around on your screen with your mouse and I am wondering if you are accidentaly dragging it down where it can't be seen. I normally run mine in the top right corner of the screen so it doesnt cover the gauges.

Hope this helps.

By Lockup's you mean screen freezes or black screen? and you you have sound playing or not? What version of drivers you using for the video card? are you using DX7 or DXa?

Here's another thing to try.  MAKE SURE that your soundcard is not in PCI slot 1.  (The one right next to your AGP slot.)  If it is, no matter what, it is often going to share resources with the video card.  I avoid using this slot unless I absolutely have to.
