« on: January 13, 2001, 11:45:00 AM »
Loading AH on son's computer:

P200
Voodoo 2 Video card(12 meg I believe)
3.02 drivers (1-27-00)
64 meg ram
Win95
Directx 8.0

Blue screen upon executing Aces High, nothing else.  Any clues?

DX 8.0 resulted in a format c for me. Then I installed DX 7.0a and have had zero problems. Voodoo 5500 here.

Same as Eagler for me. Got DirectX 8 where I could get into AH sometimes... but overall my system was unstable with DirectX 8 installed. Had to format and reinstall 7.0a

Generally the blue screen means you tried to set the resolution to 32 bit color.  The V2 can't do 32 bit.

If you can't get to the setup screen to change it back, find and delete video.cfg in the Aces High directory and restart the game.  Then be sure to pick a 16 bit color depth.

Or do you mean "blue screen of death"?

Solved the problem, a friend has a P450 with 16 meg Ultra TNT card with new monitor, buying it for $250 bucks.

I posted this someplace else, but will do so again.

Do not upgrade to DX8 unless your video driver is DX8 certified.  MS appears to have forsaken backward compatibilty with DX8 in some areas to support newer features of the current generation of video cards.

It does not mean it will not work, but there is a good chance DX8 will not work correctly with non-certified video drivers.

Check your manufacturer to insure they have tested with DX8 before upgrading to DX8.
