Planes are expensive, all the wiring and other components that go into them, along with paying for the labour to assemble them.  Many planes cost multiple millions to manufacture today owing to the higher level of technology being put into them.

Don't forget about inflation.

I always thought the F4u was a great plane.  I couldn't do much with the D hog, but I could make the 1 hog and 4 hog hum.  



Great, now I'm missing playing AH2.  I get incredible urges to bust out my x45 and just hold it.  Of course make humming plane sounds as I pretend to fly around.

Thats what they sell for now or more.
