There are a few things that affect how often I make one.

1) Current status of the game. In other words, are things on the verge of changing? If yes, I cease work on terrains (as I have now on 3 maps).

2) Time available to make a map. Sometimes I can make a map in a matter of weeks. Other times (such as now) I'm busier than I'd like and can't get the time to make them.

3) Player reaction. When I hear things like "That map doesn't belong in the game" it's discouraging. It's one thing to not like a map, everyone has ones they like and don't like (including me) but to make a statement like that is just plain .

Excellent response NHawk, thnx!

All logical reasons, #3 was the one I ws looking for. Its an issue that needs some attention.  I know making maps is not easy. If it was, we'd have tons ofem. I think more people would try to make maps but they dont want to open themselves up to negative comments from all the crybabies.

Don't get me wrong with #3. I only threw that up as a generality. I'm pretty thick skinned and if it does affect me it's only for a very short time. Overall, reactions "I've" heard have been good. :)

Edit: FYI, if you look at my signature line the bold part was added when 2 people really got under my skin. One for the comment I mentioned and the other for becoming an overnight know-it-all. :)

id like to see some more maps, but before planes and maps Id like to see strats work, either thru the CT or something new in the MA.

More ships, surface groups, convoys, at sea, howitzers on land, even the ability to be a trooper. Unless the map is something special, with nooks and crannies, ports that look like they are in lagoons/harbours, they all look alike to me.

As far as new planes, the fastest, best gunned will normally be used the most anyways, no matter how many planes you add. Spixteen,La7,P51,Nik, are the majority. Why? Real fast or great guns, or both.

I think some ord loads special to the plane type would entice people to fly other planes. That and ramp up the points while in low end planes to make it more competitive.

Atoon...

For HTC, the a couple of reasons are the effort being put into getting ToD out the door. Additionally, all new maps have too pass across Skuzzy's virtual desk and I know the hardware problems they had a few months ago really backed him up. I know for a fact that there are numerous maps "in the pipe".

For the player mapmakers, the, for lack of a better word, crap you will catch when you get a map in the rotation can make it seem less than worthwhile to put forth the effort. For me, the changes to the game (the new graphics engine) meant changes to the terrain editing system. Frankly, I found it really hard to motivate myself to try and deal with the changes (old dog...new tricks, etc.). I did, finally, get clued on the map editor. Now, I want to do the same with the tile editor....THAT is where the real fun is. :)

Which Pizza?

The original AKDesert nicknamed Pizza or Smpizza? I remember them both, but I had better remember smpizza since it's mine. That one was a "learning experience". I learned not to use "Swap Fields" without checking the CVs after using it. :D

I was talking about AKdesert, I liked the map but many didnt( sure the bases were far apart, but it was nice to have terrain w/ elevation), & the creators recieved alot of flak about it.

Actually AKDesert was inspiration for Smpizza. I tried duplicating AKDesert but it didn't work out. So I went the next best route with Smpizza.

How about a compromise? Instead of new maps how about just using the same maps with different terrain like snow or desert with corresponding camo patterns for the planes?

Welp...it would be easier just to make a new map.

In the game's current state that would require changing 41 terrain textures, changing the texture on just about every building, plus the skins for every plane/gv.

Like NB said. It'd be easier to make a new terrain.

You're welcome Max.

Hint: You just need to look at the clock in the tower to tell which terrains I've done. (2 are in rotation, 1 is a large map and out of rotation) :)
