When I left the bombs wouldnt hit the ground if you were too high.  Version 1.5 was its peak for me. That and when more than a certain number were in the same area, you couldnt see them, but they may see you and so basically you get killed by an invisible man.

Played from 2001 up untill about 9months ago. Flight opps were unplayable, and the groundwar (including tanks) is a joke when compared to Red Orchestra imho. Add in AO's & brigade crap and its a recipe for frustration. Its the only game I've ever seen where a dialup has a distinct advantage over someone on highspeed. Maybe someday I'll go back if they ever dump thier 90's game engine. The concept is good, it just needs to be brought into this century.

I really liked the idea of being a part of a bigger "war", and I hope Combat Tour brings that to AH.  It's too bad that their original code was so bad that they've never been able to recover from it.  The game is dying a slow death.

Gatr, you are definitely the wise one of your squad.  They got frustrated by ENY limiting so moved to WWIIOL.  WWIIOL has about 2 fighters and 1 bomber to choose from until you improve in rank (which takes forever because you start out flying the crappiest planes, have very few planes to shoot at, and can't see them to shoot them even when you find someone).

It's like saying, "It's too hot in California, so I'm moving to Venus."

I have enjoyed WWIIOL in the past, but it is a much different game than AH.  AH is a much better flight environment.  Part of the reason AH is much better for flying than WWIIOL is the visibility -- not just the murky skies in WWIIOL but the whole view system in WWIIOL, which sucks.  The visibility is always poor, you can't see behind you, but worst of all is that your icon indication of an enemy goes away once you shift you view.  So, once you do aquire a target, if you shift your view to keep him in sight, you lose the icon on him, which makes it extremely hard to track anyone through the murk.

Another big difference is that a big furball in WWIIOL seems to involve about 5 planes, and there are times when you can fly around for an hour and end up finding maybe one enemy to fight.

At least that's how it was -- it's probably been about 6-12 months since I last played it.

It does have some interesting features.  The planes do seem to have interesting damage models.  The scenery looks good.  Overall, though, AH is just in a totally different (and much better) league for flying.

Absolutely. Enjoy WW2online very much from time to time. Not so much the airwar though.  Enjoy AH too but not so much the ground vehicles. Like the plane physics and cockpits better in TW though. As a matter of fact, I have great memories from all the sims I frequent.

Just a FYI... IIRC...

WWII Online was taken over by Matrix Games a while back and was released under A different title. Check their site out.

Check them out, I think that is what happened to it.

I played right up until the Xmas Patch. That blew it for me. Never did the airwar part of it after my first time up. Totally un-realistic and I couldn't stand it. The ground war was great but they porked it when they came out with the Xmas patch. I think they lost anywhere from 30 to 50% of their player bas on that one.

Bought it when it came out...installed it...patched it....played it a bit.

I bought a new comuter last year and it is a BAD mammajamma...and WW2OL STILL SUCKS.....

Sorry I ever tried it to begin with and will NEVER play it again.

Promises of this being fixed...that being fixed.....frame rates in the single digits....FM's that are terrible at best.....Spawn camping worst than in AH....No thanks. A user interface that is just stupid.

AH is it for me as far as a flying sim goes. Ground war doesn't interest me all that much.

Only thing I do other than Flying is Racing.

The tanks in WW2OL are done really well. If HT could get thier models done like them we could see ALOT of players coming over here.

When they brought in the Olympic Sappers [that could chase down tanks and put a charge on them] it pretty much killed the ground war for me.

AH is farther along toward a combined arms war game than the Rats will ever be.
