New Base Looks for new Terrains.
« on: April 01, 2007, 02:11:13 PM »
I think its time that we get a new texture look to our airfields. Nothing big just some moving around and new runways.

Small Fields: I think small fields should have a grass runway, and a kinda dirty grassy taxi way and parking. Maybe have camo hangers or something like that.

Medium Fields: I think the medium fields should have those Marsden Matting runways. (Steel matting used to build quick runways) The taxi ways could be dirt or the steel mattings. Hangers would be camo color.

Large Fields: Would remain the same.

Will this is all I can think of right now, but your welcome to comment or add on.

IT would be nice to get different lookin fields and also to have them in different positions.instead of having all the maps with runways the same direction they shold be positioned diferent.

also be nice to have things like ammo bunkers camoflarged and stuff.

Ya beat me to one of my future posts.
I agree!! I was going to throw my two cents in about Maps at some point
like everyone else, but since you touched on one point... YES! I would love
to see small grass fields. I'm not much of a history buff, but were there
always so many Airfields so close togeather?

I would like to see either larger Maps or less Airfields that hold a higher
strategic value. The Grass Airfields could be hidden on the Clipboard
to the enemy. How much would that rock? Then you could actually have
RECON type missions to find these hidden Grass Fields...

The CVs are hidden but not the Airfields... hmm... Should all the enemy
Fields be hidden?

Eurisko, although it's unrealistic having so many airfields so close together, it's what's highly requested for the MA to have fun. If you want more of a challenge gor for AvA or SEA arenas. They usually run some historic terrains / missions.

Not quite. AvA has a completely different set of rules than the MA. You couldn't use that field in the MA.

Until the rules for MA terrains change, or the default fields change, different airfield layouts won't be possible.

Simple question, why not? Those maps look great why can`t they be used in the MA? Whats the big deal in allowing them to be used?I been wondering for years. Why can`t they be redone to work in the MA?Wouldn`t that be easier n much quicker then creating an entirely new map?

Greetings,

I am no expert, but I read something, somewhere, at sometime, that HT could not risk the MA crashing and established very strict rules for what could and could not be an MA Map.

I have a list of the rules, but a short list is no unique objects or textures.

Regards,

MWL is semi-correct.

Custom objects are forbidden from the MA for the exact reason he stated. They risk crashing the main arena. And the custom objects are stored in the .res file for the terrain, which increases download size.

Custom textures are allowable within certain limits. The main reason these are limited is because the custom texture, like a custom object, is stored in the terrain itself and each custom texture dramatically increases the size of the .res file that needs to be downloaded.

Karelia is a perfect example of this. It is over 12mb in size. Whereas if it were for the MA it would probably be in the 1 to 2mb range.

Edit: Then there is the time factor. It takes quite a bit of time to produce a map for the MA. But the time to create a CM map is usually much longer. When I say "much longer" I mean what takes me one month for the MA would probably take 6 months or more for the CM team. Dux would be better able to establish time frames for the CM team. People just don't realize the amount of planning and work the CM team does and I salute them for their efforts.
