Comp freezing when Gun fires
« on: December 27, 2001, 01:50:00 AM »
Hi ive got a problem when i play AH. whenever i fire my gun the comp freezes for a second then unfreezes and continues firing. and when im attacking people and were both firing i usually dont even see the battle, the screen freezes while i can hear the sounds in the background and it only unfreezes when i get killed or crash into the ground. I tried lowering the resolution but to no avail.

Im running:

P4 1400MHz
ADSL internet
NVIDIA GeForce 2 Ultra

i need to get this fixed fast i cant play like this

That was a problem which was bugging a LOT of people. It seems it is a problem that has to do with DirectX sound settings.

First, go to the control panel and bring out the DirectX program. Click on DirectSound and set the Debug Output level to minimum. Then, run the DxDiagnostics, go to the sound tab and set the Hardware Acceleration at minimum also.

YOYO

Use DX8.1 and nvidias 21.83 drivers.I was getting the mini-freezes with the latest nvidia drvrs.
To get to the dx; go to win explorer the path is c:\program files\directx\dxsetup

The direct X control panel is not normally a part of Win98 not sure of other versions but you can acquire it.
Go to this site http://frontpage.brainerd.net/brainerd/weeklycolumn010727.htm

It explains what its about but basically you download 1 extremely small file and copy it into your windows\system folder you will then have an option called DirectX in your control panel.
Start it and check the properties for each tab you will see the debug level was left switched on in error by MS for direct sound i believe anyway just set it to minimum and apply, then give it a try.

Damn typos  :)

blackfalcon i can tell youve never done tech support  :)

"c:\program files\directx\dxsetup" to someone who says that they are computer illiterate is like explaining it to them in greek..  :D (no offence darkrider, or black falcon)

You can select the start menu, select run then type "dxsetup" and if its in the system folder as it should be it should launch the program.
