Gunsite missing, no sound, no saving conv and head pos settings

Anyone else experiencing these problems, I fly one mission after joining the arena, everything is fine, then when I get a new plane, nothing is being saved.  No head position settings, no gun convergence settings, no sound, and above all no gunsight, I just get this big white box.  I just did a fresh install for crying out loud.

Yes .. I had something very simlar. After 4 mintues I would lose only the sound of my guns and very often I had the "white box"
Very simlar to the problems that "ssh" had except I didn't have a virus. I reinstalled
Win98 and that fixed the corrupted windows file .. but then my flight controler was porked also so I used a utility to remove all
stick calibration and started all over.  I think I just now got my problems fixed .. and I mean with in the last hour or so ... still keeping my fingers crossed.

I can send you that utility if you want ..

You have a virus called W32.hybris.gen.  I can almost GUARANTEE it.  (See the thread I just replyed to.)

You will need to update your virus scanner to detect it.  The virus program can repair the damage to your Wsock32.dll file.  You can then safely delete the virus "body" in your Windows system folder.  The virus scanner will tell you the filenames.

Sprint, it's almost a guarantee you have the virus.  Your virus scanner WILL NOT detect the virus unless you updated it within the last month!

You need to have the virus removed VERY soon, otherwise it will update itself and destroy every executable file on your system.

Look for very odd filenames in your windows system folder.  (I had a tech support thread back in the middle of December detailing everything.)

bloom25 ... I have had no virus(checked my log\double checked), my virus
protection is up to date .. in fact that virus is in my list of protection ... and I do updates and scans all the time... I mean all the time. :-)Norton Anti Virus 2000.

HOWEVER it sure sounded like the same type of problems that other people had and it sure played havoc with my TM HOTAS and was a squeak to fixed.

And as PING said .. keep up the good work.

PS: My troubles came when I downloaded some new sound add-on's for Winamp. They didn't install correctly and I had trouble deleting them ... THEN the troubles started.

More info on this Win32.hybris virus:

W32/Hybris - his is an Internet worm which can be received by email. Typically these messages will make
reference to, "Snowhite and the Seven Dwarfs". If run, this worm modifies the WSOCK32.DLL file, after

AVERT cautions all users to delete unexpected attachments. W32/Hybris.gen@M is sent unknowingly by
the infected user.

This Internet worm downloads encrypted update components from an Internet web site, most likely it is the
author's site. This worm downloads encrypted components similar to the method first used by
W95/Babylonia.

Emails may arrive from an infected user in this format: From: Hahaha [hahaha@sexyfun.net] Subject:
Snowhite and the Seven Dwarfs - The REAL story! Body: Today, Snowhite was turning 18. The 7 Dwarfs
always where very educated and polite with Snowhite. When they go out work at mornign, they promissed
