Bass Pro Shop has been in Grapevine for several years. There's a Cabella's near Texas Motor Speedway. I'm sure their pay is standard for retail associates ($7.50 - $10.00) d.o.e.

I'd recomend trying to get a job at Costco, they start close to $21.00 an hour... more than double what Home Depot will pay you to start.

Bass Pro Shops are overpriced big time.  The only thing I *might* buy from one is a rod and reel.  However, they only carry baitcasting and spinning reels.

I know this thread is about working at a bass pro shop, but the whole point of a Bass Pro Shop is getting people to spend extraordinary amounts of money in a feeble attempt to become a better fisherman or hunter.

Two things will make someone a great fisherman, knowledge and experience.  Not a $120 baitcasting reel.

Cabela's is about $8.50 for part time, $10.00 for full time. The pay isn't why people work there, however.

Discounts on house brand are very, very good. Name brand stuff usually about half the house discount. Lots of ProForm special discounts direct from the manufacturer.

If you have spare cash and a true need for some equipment/clothing you can save serious bucks. THAT'S the only thing that makes working for either Bass or Cabela's even worth a look.

They sound like home depot. They had a big issue about customer service...
Maybe I won't go pro:( That pay scale sucks for what they want you to do for the public!

You'll never get rich in retail. However, if their employee discounts are like Toad says, that's not a bad deal.

A $120 bait casting reel might not make you a better fisherman, but they sure are sweet reels to use. I know, I own a couple. :)

Any sporting goods store is a good place to have a part time job at. Especially if one you work at is like Academy or Dicks. I bought all my oldest sons youth sports equipment far enough ahead to have him setup for a couple of seasons when I worked at Academy a couple of years ago. It might be time to go back since he needs a new bat for baseball and helmet for football.

Bass Pro has a lot of awesome stuff, but $14.99 for some of their crank baits!  you have to be kidding me.

Like someone said earlier....a $400 set up, and an equal amount tackle box, isn't going to make you a great fishermen.
