hello  i may need some help in configuring
my new ststem. i upgraded to an Abit k7 raid
MB, and a 900mhz T-bird cpu. i have a v770 ultra 32mg card ans 128mb of ram. i run win 98
and directx 7a. i had a p3 500 mhz cpu with all the rest the same but MB. i could run about
50 fps  alone flying but it got slow around smoke and big furballs. now it still is only about 52 at best, but its not as slow around smoke and stuff.  should it be higher and if so how do i get it there. thx for your time in advance.

Jcy I have an Asus a7v 256mb pc133 800mhz Tbird with a Asus v7700 Geforce2 GTS 32mb
I avg around 50fps with this.  I just don't dip down to the single digits anymore in the smoke is the biggest thing I have noticed.  but I also run 1600x1280 32bit   Looks sweet

From what I understand of the TNT2 ultra cards is that they top out, performance wise, at the 600mhz cpu range. Your TNT2 card is now the bottle neck for fps. Your cpu can handle AH much better but your vid card can process the graphics any faster.
I own one too. I like it. FPS is 40's-50's usually, lower in low alt furballs around CV's or damaged baes. But if I overclock this PIII600 I'll need a better vid card to handle the faster info the extra cpu horsepower will send to it.

You can try a couple things and see if they help:  A. Up the refresh rate of the monitor.  B. Overclock the video card. (The Diamond 4.01 drivers had the utility built in to do this.)

Have you got your video card set to "synch to vertical refresh"?  Look in your video card's 3d properties.  If enabled, this means your frame rate will always be a factor (equal, 1/2, etc.) of your monitor's refresh rate.  For example if your monitor's refresh rate is set to 85, if your card can't produce 85 fps, it will drop to 1/2, etc.

Your game will only run as fast as what the slowest component will alow it too run.  In your case the TNT-2u could well be that bottleneck. You should notice a big difference in FPS if you switch to a GForce2 card (a good one).
