No sound in AH
« on: January 01, 2002, 09:55:00 AM »
I had not played AH in several months, but got the itch to fly again, so last night I went in to go flying only to find that I have no sound in AH at all. No engine sounds, no gun sounds, nothing!!

I looked in the FAQ's and other help topics but only saw one concerning sound and that guy was only missing his engine sounds. I am missing ALL AH sounds. I have tried re-booting both warm and cold boots. I have not tried a re-install as I don't want to sit through hours for the D/L if I don't have to. I'm hopeing there might be someone out there that may have a fix for this other then a complete uninstall and install. Anyone have any idea's? Sounds work fine in all other programs including 3 other games and on my desk top. Only place I have sound problems is in AH. I have aleady checked and all my drivers are up to date, and I know it's not a configuration problem, or at least it wasent last time I flew AH cause everything worked fine then.

Any help would be much appreciated.

After talking to some friends in ICQ and getting idea's to try to figure out why I could get no sound in AH, I found out that I could not get ANY .WAV files to play on my box. The really odd part was that Combat Mission (CM) also uses .WAV format files for the game sound. I could not get any of them to play while trying to do so from windows exlorer, but I could run the game and had all the sounds that are in there work fine.

Anyhow, with some Advice from Bullethead and Gunner <both from the CAF> I reloaded my sound card drivers and re-booted. That fixed the no sound problem I was having in AH as well as being able to run .WAV files from explorer. Not sure what porked my system to start with, but all is well with AH now <G>
