The really strange thing is, the Ki-84, Fw190, Bf109s and the new P-47, P-38, F4Us have a very real feel of 'bulk' concerning cockpit frames. They are indeed a hinderance when compared to the older AH1 cockpits, but the specs seem to be real enough and people generally accept it as it is.
But the Spits and P-51s...
...whenever I am in those two planes I wonder.. why is it that only these two planes have virtually zero-depth/bulk cockpit frames? All of the planes listed above - Ki84, 190, 109, P47, P38, F4U.. etc etc.. have a much more bulkier, more in-depth depiction of cockpit frames, but for some reason the P-51 and the Spitfire cockpit frames are as thin as old AH1 frames (on a relative scale).
