Gamma/Contrast/Headache REVISITED

I'm not sure if I'm right, but you guys may be talking about what I'm referring to as the constant "haze" in the new terrain. I was told by one pilot that this is modifiable in the offline mode and that tinkering with it cleared things up fine. So, it may be that the only "workaround" for you is for HTC to modify the appropriate setting(s) on the game server.

I noticed that the sun effects seem much diminished since the update.
Perhaps too much? Perhaps a direct tie to reduced lighting and a dark green thats a bit too dark leaving things looking & feeling "dim".

Also the ground green is a bit too close to the scattered tree green. Giving you little if any contrast until your right on top of them.

All that dark green terrain just seems to suck the light out of the sky IMO.

BTW LOVE the ocean color now.

I love the fact that the horizon doesnt look like Death Valley at 4pm (the @#$$$ sun blotting out all, including instruments)---but EVERYthing is darker as well--I bumped gamma up from mid-range to about 3/4 of max--my other issue may be a driver thing brought about by new terrain, but if I alt-tab out of the game, when I return, it's dark again, though the gamma slider remains in place--move it a teeny bit, and it remembers the correct level

you can adjust the visibility offline and it has some interesting effects, however, with the current terrain anything even approaching clear visability makes the world appear as though you are flying over a large swath of lime green carpet.

as it is, the sky is its just not realistic at all.  i feel like i am flying in tomcats.

makes me woozy.

that said, the new bases look AWESOME.

Maybe HTC is finally testing virtual Raybans.  :D

But seriously, anybody else notice that in the film viewer all the colors are correct and it looks spectacular?

Film Viewer?
It's as dark as sitting in a cave during a solar eclipse with eyes shut.... well almost.
(Game gamma settings seem to have no influence on film viewer)

If you are able, turn up your K!!!

You should be able to find it in the monitor menu under pallette?  It MUST be turned up using your monitor!

It is the ONLY thing that helped me!!!!!!!!!

Well even with turning up the K from 6500 to 8500 I had to increase GAMMA to 1.5.

Thing is it now looks more like the old AHII.

I can see mounds and small hills where before it all looked smooth!

Makes a BIG difference!!!!!!!!

Wondering if when the arena is getting tuned for visual the person tuning it might have their K set really high??????????????????????????

Would POSSIBLY explain why everything is so FRAKKIN dark!

If that is the case then that person may want to set their K to 6500 for arena color/shade tuning! Then set it back high? Especially for those that CAN'T adjust their K.

Exactly, you can't see depth anymore in game.  I adjust everything and

#1 it just makes the other portions of the game annoying.

#2 it just makes EVERYTHING else I do on my computer annoying.

I've NEVER had this problem with any other game.

Yea I agree with you there the new bases look great. Only bad thing about them is when I turn my gamma up, the hanger pad textures start flaking out when I fly over them.

As a side note I had a heck of a time finding the map room the first time I ran to a V base with the new textures..lol I drove to where I knew it was and almost couldn't see the little bunker at about 500ft away because everything blending in so much.

You guys whining about the brightness need to get some skills and utilise the options on your puter to tailor things to your liking.

I never actually changed any settings on my pc and it looks just fine. Have a fiddle with monitor settings, but more importantly I would change your graphics cards settings, Colour brightness and gamma, although you shouldnt really need much of the latter two!

2 much gamma = headaches

I play a lot of different games, all without problems. I do a lot of graphic works, never have color or brightness problems. AH was running fine before this patch.
I tried old & new drivers. I tweaked gamma, vibrance, contrast, saturation, colour temperature, both with the driver software and in my screen's menu itself. (BTW, fiddling with such things since 1978, so while far from being 1337, I certainly do have some "skills"...)

Please note that I and most others don't whine that we don't like this or that... we are pointing out a potential real bug which is drastically hampering play for some of us.  I do like most of the new features, I dislike a few, but not beeing able to see things is not a matter of taste.

Accusing people having technical trouble with the new patch of whining is just a sign of ignorance.

Have the latest patch installed & just upped a sortie to check all this out on my box. I did not change anything settings-wise on my box.

I didn't see any issues w/ the contrast or gamma of the terrain at all. I could easily acquire depth perception off terrain w/o looking at altimeter.

IMHO, I think that HTC did a good job of taking their 2-D rendered terrain & transferring it into a true 3-D rendered terrain on the 1st run. This is what I believe that most of these issues are deriving from, which will call for some readjustments to the vid card settings or monitor realignment on our end to compensate. It will also call for some 3-D terrain objects realignment from HTC as they go thru their paces w/ this in operation on the servers & find where the settings can/should be changed-& this will take some time. This is nothing new-others have been there, done that & bought the tee-shirt.

Patience is the order of the day here. Be alright.

If anyone does have a display optimization routine for their monitor(Nvidia has one in their VC drivers-remember Coloriffic anyone?, don't know for sure 'bout ATI)this would be a good time to retune your monitor. This will tune your monitor to look according to YOUR viewing perception(s) & all aspects of your display-brightness, color contrast & alignment, hue-can be adjusted to suit your viewing desires. Since you're using the monitor's controls to set all this, the beauty of it all is that the monitor will look the same to you regardless of the application.

I would start there 1st, then look at your vid cards settings 2nd then look at your in-game settings last.

Just a suggestion & hope this helps.
