There's always been a problem with the M-3's & M-16's being able to absorb hit after hit from any tank. I think it was explained once that it was modeled that way to emulate AP rounds zipping through the skin of the vehicle & doing nothing but punching a hole in it; but I found HE did the same thing & it didn't matter where your round impacted either....cab or rear.
As far as the FF armor & the German 88; it was a first shot kill scenario if the Sherman found itself in a Tigers sights from any angle & at just about any range whereas the 17-pounder of the FF had trouble at range with the Tigers front glacis. It was after all basically a 76mm & the Sherman was being fitted with a new turret (can't remember what it was called) that employed a 76mm high velocity gun (HV ammunition to be more precise). The comments I had read said that the crews of the Shermans were screaming bloody murder for more of the 76mm HV ammo because it was a big improvement & it was in very short supply.
There is no doubt the 17-pndr could kill a Tiger, but it was not the end all weapon to match the German 88 by any stretch...I could be mistaken (probably am) but I think the up-gunned late model T-34's had a better shot/kill ratio. Maybe if HTC looked into adding in a perked High Velocity ammo package for the T-34 & FF, thus making them low range perk vehicles, it might enable them to leave the Tiger as strong as it ever was & have a counter for it in the game that doesn't require another Tiger to be rolled out.
