Game locks up when trying to go online
« on: April 08, 2010, 07:10:58 PM »
I downloaded the latest patch, now the game locks up when I click to go to the online arenas. I can do offline practice fine, but as soon as I click the online arenas button, nothing - no keys, mouse, anything, just a total lock-up and I have to do a hard reboot. I had no problems playing online as of last night, and apart from the AH patch nothing on my PC has changed as far as I'm aware.

DXdiag (or what it would let me post of it anyway):

Update: apparently it was my firewall. I assumed it wasn't because I had checked that setting and Aces High was selected as an exception, and for other updates it always popped up a window asking me whether to allow it through or not. It didn't do that this time, or maybe something was preventing me from seeing it, but when I logged on to account maintenance, I got the "___ has changed, do you want to allow access?" window, clicked yes, and then account maint. appeared as usual and, sure enough, when I signed off that and clicked the button for online arenas, the arenas menue now appeared.

So I guess I'm good to go. I'll leave this in case anyone has similar problems.

This will almost always happen after a patch.

Skuzzy: because the auto updater stays in full screen mode, it often appears to hang when my firewall opens a permission dialog, but that dialog is hidden and can't be accessed.  For this update I was able to reach the dialog by hitting the Windows key.  (With previous updates that had failed, so I made it a habit of downloading the update patch directly from your web page, but of course I couldn't do that with this patch.)  It would be nice if the updater would drop back to windowed mode so firewall warnings can pop up.
