Man Shifty - you are an old fart!  We at least had flint and steel -   it was kinda messy keeping track of score on the shovel blade with a piece of charcol though  . . . :D

You are right about one thing - it was a lot more "civil" in those days.  With the opponent sitting right across the table from you there wasn't any of the channel 200 purse fight kind of name calling and false bravado that you see on-line.

Just curious SKJohn, what part of Arizona do you live in? I was stationed at DM AFB in Tucson from 83 to 92. I really miss Arizona, I have to admit it took a few years for me to appreciate it, but once I  did....... I loved it and hated to leave.

Actually yes. Depending on the quality of the boardgame, you can learn a lot about basic acm, proper usage of your planes strength, tactical cordination etc.

Foxbat and Phantom was SPI not SSI.

Played it quite a bit back in the late 70's early 80's.

Having owned and played almost all the Avalon Hill wargame titles I'd have to say I didn't really care for their air combat games much. I tried Luftwaffe, Richtofen's War, Midway and nothing really thrilled me much until they came out with B-17 Queen of the Skies.

I still play B-17 to this day (I've had it now 14 years!).

Just before Avalon Hill gave up the wargame biz I bought all of their "Smithsonian Series" games. One of the best of them is a WW2 air combat game called Mustangs! It rocks!

LOL do they still have the Rugby team Mesa Kontiki? I played rugby for the base team for six years. Mesa had an all Samoan Rugby team and they were mean as hell, loved to fight, and then loved to drink beer with you after the match.

Those guys were scarey as hell but it was always exciting.:D

I liked Midway, I even purchased the little expansion kit that gave you British ships, and different maps for other battles.  I coul never get into Third Riech, I guess the big picture war didn't appeal to me.

I don't follow rugby so I wouldn't know about that, but we do have a Tongan church down the street from us.  Talk about a tough looking bunch of guys - maybe that's why their church is the only building around here that doesn't get tagged on a regular basis . . . ?
