Steve,

It's been my experiance that for true concealed carry a small to mid frame revolver is easiest to coneal. Something like a S&W 66 in 2.75" barrel and round butt or a smaller J frame. I have one of those and carried it very unobtrusively just in the waist band of my pants back by the rear kidney area, strongside. It was far enough back that I could get to it with either hand and easily covered by a shirt tail or untucked T-shirt. Yep it's 6 (or 5 depending on model) rounds and reloads are easiest concealed loose in the pocket.

I like the locked box idea, but am not sure about the lid locking mechanism and would want a heavier cable to secure the box to the vehicle.

my new truck gun is a mossberg 590 mariner 12 ga.  as my old eyes deteriorate I feel a little more comfortable with that dependable shotgun.  It's holster is a roof rack that got from cabela's.  my tote weapon is a model 85 .38 special loaded with +P.  the holster is an old bianchi pancake that fits snugly and comfortable in the small of my back, even when I sit for short periods of time.

I use "Uncle Mikes Sidekick" holsters, they are cheap, durable and comfortable even with my larger pistols. S&W model 29)

I prefer the inside the waist holster, or the pancake belt. One thing about the waist line hostlers, the stiffer it is around the safety snap, the better chance it will irritate your skin until it breaks in...er, if your, uh "belly" rests on top of it. Having a hidden hammer is a plus.

Although irritating at first, you'll feel naked without that lump feeling.

i like the xd springfield..great pistol...my bud had the sub compact version with the light rail...i really liked it..he sold it thou..i wish i would of made a offer..good lookin machine...and i liked the feal better than a sub compact glock...grip was better on the springfield..the extended clip felt great too....they run even a tad cheaper than the glock sub...i think they got a good pistol there..one of the best new ones i seen come out.

i carry my little mini 1911 down there in the pic..and my walther p38<~~still got a box of 9mm 147 grain black talons for it:)...great pistol thou..first double action auto..and has a great decock

once and a while..i carry my dragoon..lol but its a little much for a carry on..lol..winter only..lol

  ya,,..my bud was told not to use the plastic on his springfield unless he wanted to ruin the finish and didnt care..which is all up to the person..the plastic ones allways make lines down the gun were it locks into place
