Disabling gunflashes?
« on: April 30, 2007, 11:14:36 PM »
Hi all!
Is there some way I can disable gun flashes?
You know, the light show that you see in cockpit when your firing your bullets.....

The reason I ask, is I notice that my frames drop from 50-60 down to about 13-14 whenever I fire my guns. However  whilst firing if i zoom in so I cant see the instruments anymore it goes right back up to about 55-60.

Also if i disable hardware vertex processing, the frame hit isnt as large...it only drops to about 35-40 whilst firing. The downside of disbaling that vertex processing is that it causes some really weird display anomalies when in water (e.g. Ship guns).....heres a pic:

PS: I have also tried reducing maxtex size to 128, disabling weapon and vehicle effects, moving sliders to min detail and max faster, ground detail slider to minimum, etc.etc. Only thing I found was that hardware vertex setting which made a difference.......any ideas?

Heres a partial DXDiag for those who can make heads or tails of it.......god knows I cant....

I think you can go into the graphics options off the clipboard and turn "weapons effects" off. I've never tried it myself, but i believe it disables the flashes you see, and ejected cartriges, smoke etc.
You could also try turning tracers off which *may* help with the frame-rates too - it may also improve your gunnery after an adjustment period.

[EDIT] - oops sorry didnt read your entire post... scrap the above.

I do not believe 'gun effects' remove gun flashes, just the visable shell ejections when rounds are fired.
Far too many, if not most, people on this Board post just to say something opposed to posting when they have something to say.
