Are you sure? I heard it was the mid-air refueling probe. It was an attempt to increase the Me 163's short range to allow for long range escort missions. Several of the German bombers in the mission would be loaded with extra fuel rather than bombs. The 163s would then refuel in flight from the fuel toting bombers, allowing a fully escorted mission to London from Berlin.
Refuel the Me 163 in the air you joking
On the ground it had to be fueled in a special way as it carrys 2 different types of fuel and when mixed the are more highly ignigtable than petrol. And when Mixed if exposed to atmospheric pressure that can even ignight the fuel. As from what i read the 163 pilots would rather bail out of the 163 than land as the slightest misstake on landing and KABOOM. Thats also the reason it was never produced as much as the 262 as Georing didnt want to loose what experienced pilots he had left.
Good chance its the pito tube or summit that was needed when they where slung under Ju 88's. But hey nothing a bit o research can resolve for us
As it isnt to make it look Pretty thats impossible
maybe to make allied pilots think it looked slower than it was
