What version of Vista are you running?
Are you logged into Vista as adminstrator or a user with admin priveledges?
What if any antivirus software are you using?
What if any firewall is running?

I know when i run BF2 i have to right click the icon and choose admin.  IS that what i am doing wrong.

Alright, you're probably running Home Premium as it seems like that's what most consumer desktops are coming with.

You said that you updated your video card. What video card and what drivers? If you updated drivers did you uninstall the original drivers first? Have you visited the website of the computer (not video card) manufacturer and checked for all updates for your new machine? I know you said you already got Vista updates.

Since you say you are having trouble downloading the "patch" then I assume you already downloaded the game itself? Are you letting the game download and install the patch or are you manually downloading the patch yourself? If so, exactly what happens - is Internet Explorer itself freezing up or is the whole pc locking up?

Lotsa questions but there are alot of things that could be going wrong. One thing to try is simply to delete and reinstall the entire game all over rather than messing around trying to patch what you have.

All kidding aside I've had that kind of problem also with XP. The built in patching system just froze the computer each time I tried it. It was fixed by doing a complete reinstallation of AH over the old install.

When I bought OS for my new box I stuck with XP (duh:))....the OS happened to come with a coupon for a Vista upgrade (home premium). I recently loaded it up (dual boot system not "upgrade"). Fundementally Vista seems fine (not needed of course). However itdoesnt take 20 min to realize its not ready/stable. My system will lock up once it goes into hibernation for no reason as one example.

The Nvidia vista drivers "auto unload" your old drivers btw. It also seems to have alot of legacy issues....I did load AH and it was fine the 1st time but wont even load the program now...no clue if its a VC driver issue ir something else....and really dont care since I dont use the vista OS for anything right now.

From what I can tell though Vista is a selfloading updating thingbob....it'll auto upgrade even more then XP. I'd assume whatever box you bought has/had that enabled. If you turned it off I'd manually load all the updates and see if that helps anything. When I loaded the OS a few days ago there were 7 priority updates and a bunch more as well...

Microsoft is allowing the large OEM's to continue to ship XP for another year.  And the small computer shops are being allowed to continue shipping XP for another 2 years.  Just FYI.

There are a lot of quirks with Vista. In actuality all Vista was created for was to cap internet piracy of films and music. As for interface issues yes it looks cool and has pretty 3D graphics but nothing more than XP with a police package installed for those rapsody/post napster generations that continue to download music for free.Expect a letter in the mail from your local court system :lol

Support yes, but I heard that OEM boxes will be forced to Vista only 1/2008. Meaning you can't buy a new machine with XP anymore - and probably can't buy a boxed XP either.

The 1/2008 date has been changed to 3/2008 for large OEM's.  Small system builders will still be able to offer XP until 3/2009.  This is a recent change MS announced.
