I could be mistaken, but I believe that was intentional.

It would be nice. Most air to air defense at a Vehicle base, when there is any, is by other GV types from what I see. The "Air Combat" guys don't generally fly to defend a GV base. They wait until it falls and then holler because enemy GVs are now headed to an airfield.

What if the vehicle bases had a re-arm pad, as well as an ammo bunker and a fuel bunker off to the side somewhere.

If you destroy the fuel and ammo bunkers, the re-arm pad becomes useless?

This way if your flying by with your squad and are low on fuel or ammo, and know an air raid is coming to a V-Base, you can land re-arm, and meet them head on.

It would also shorten the front when air fields are more than a sector from the front line.

I think someone reported it in the Bugs forum and it was removed shortly after that, but I can't totally recall Hubs.

i wouldnt have any re arm pads.for me they are a gamey anachronism.

However i liked the idea of aircraft supplies. Just like vehicle supplies you stop the aircraft close to them and can take them on by clicking the icon.

No repair tho........

Actually, I was adding some humor to an otherwise quiet topic  :)

I'm all for VH bases...or supplies in general...to be allowed to re-arm any vehicle or aircraft.  If the pilot can dodge the landscape, hills, shrubs and trees...and an waiting M3 can dump a supply on him...and the pilot can reup without getting strafed, hitting a tree or slugging something with all that weight....god speed, i say!

But seriously.  We need that Mach 3 jet.  Of course its a voice activated weapons system only knows Russian.  So who knows how to say "Fire Missile" in Russian   :)

Not to mention modt GVs didnt run on aviation fuel

Not true, some US tanks had Ford water cooled engines, while others used aircraft radial engines.   The M4 Sherman tanks is one tank that comes to mind.   The M4A1 was powered by a Continental R974 C4; 9 cylinder, 4 cycle, radial gasoline.  While I am sure they didn't have to run on AV Gas, they were fully capable of running on AV Gas.

As far as repairing aircraft that are damaged, I think there should be an option to repair damage.   Repair time determined by the amount of damage.   It wouldn't have to be on the rearm pad, but could be done on the aprons around the hangers.   If a pilot opted for repairs the he would have to stay on the field till the repairs are completed.   If a base comes under attack and the pilot exits his plane, then either a kill penalty or some other penalty should be imposed.   The real benefit would be in the SEA arenas.    Where damaged planes are essentially kills that managed to land.

Several variants of Axis iron ran on 87 octane.  Specifically the DB 601 & 605 engines...

Would be handy just to have the ability to refuel those lower octane engines.
