First I up my P-51. I'm heading out to my squad mates who were out for a while already, and I see a lone F4U-1C about 6.0 in the other direction. I reverse and set up for a head on pass. I'm pretty stoked. I mean, first up for the night and I'm in a 1 v 1 with someone in a good plane. Anyway, I'm setting up for the merge, thinking of how I want to fight this guy, we're closing quick and 400 out I hear about one ping and then I'm back in the hangar. Guy must've shot me through the heart or something. So, in about 5 minutes of playing I'm already dead once.
Few minutes later after the now pair of F4U's clear datum, I re-up and meet up with my squad. We tag a flight of B-17's. I dump half a magazine into two of them, then 'something' shoots me when I'm clearing. Dunno what it was, but now I'm leaking oil everywhere and trailing a huge smoke trail. Start to RTB and get tagged again. Not another dot in the sky. 'Is stuff just falling off the plane?' I think. Checking my E6B and figuring out my best profile before I lose my engine....and I disco.
15 minutes in and I have a death and a disco.
Re-up my pony, head out, meet up with my squad that is RTB. One is dragging that F4U that shot me earlier. Nice, I'm thinking, revenge. I'm a good 5-10k above the fight, roll in and get about 450 indicated. The F4U has no idea I'm there, or else doesn't care. I've got this guy absolutely pegged, a can't miss shot, closing fast. I sort of lose him in the forest background but know he's in the pipper. Waiting, waiting...about 400 out now...can't miss...can't quite see him in the trees....and BAM I collide with him. This was the shot every pilot dreams of and I freaking run into the guy. Blood all over the canopy, spiral into the ground, back to the hangar.
30 minutes in now, and I have 2 deaths and one disco.
Re-up my pony, heading out, get jumped by a single F6F. My squad mates are inbound, but a ways away, so I have some one v one time. I'm slow already off the deck, so I chop throttle, dump all sorts of flap and get into a scissors with the F6F. Nice, I'm thinking, lets see how this goes. Two passes in and I'm getting angles on the guy. Setting up for a snapshot on the next pass and...disco.
It was one of those nights where I wished I haven't even turned the game on.
