LAN H2H, need aid of the veterans
« on: May 03, 2007, 02:56:04 PM »
Hi all

I will try to explain well the matter.

I have two old computers (W98SE PII333 &voodoo3000 &132RAM and PII266 & Wme voodoo4500 &132RAM) and I´ve created one local area net, (selecting IP to both computers, no set DNS, no set gateway) I would like to play AH with both computers. I havent internet access, and no AH account. The AH version is AH 1.094

The net works ok. run with others sims like warbirds and down of aces and with others games. The problem is only with AH. In the PC_01 I mark the "LAN" box and press "H2H", then I press the button "host", the game begin and I can see the tower. In the PC_02, I select "LAN" and press "H2H", then I can see the "arenas list" with only my arena created in the computer01 (without any ping number), when I try to join, the arena created on PC_01 disappears of the list. therefore is impossible to join.

When I change the host to the other computer, the problem is repeated .

Both computers work OK with AH offline.

If somebody knows how to do, please help me. thanks and sorry for my poor english language.

Update your AH version, you can do this automatically by pressing "Select Internet Game" or choosing to see a list of public servers. It will check for any new game updates from the AH servers, sounds to me you have a VERY old version.

Are you sure those computers will even run AH?  I guess at very minimum settings you may see 3 or 4 FPS... but will that even be playable?

I think Aces High has a minimum spec of 900MHZ.

I realize that, yet right now he has to update to get any chances of getting LAN to work. Theres not many people that can help his issue, it's such an old version of AH.

I think this is why he titled his thread:

LAN H2H, need aid of the veterans

tucu, from my memory both your computers seem sufficient to run that version, I had built a Pent 333 celeron with voodoo3500 16 meg vidcard  if I am remembering right, and was able to play online with it........( actually built it for my father in law )

keep working at it, and hopefully someone who tinkers with these LAN systems can help figure it out for you, if it is possible to do.....

hmm edit..... just thought of something, even though back then people could play  H2H, I  remembering reading somewhere that the game itself still phoned home to the HTC server? is this not true?

if it did indeed do this, then I am affraid you are out of luck, since HTC prob does not have it loaded up on its servers anymore.......( just assuming here )

hi pilots, first of all, thank you for all answers

this version of AH I (1086) works fine in both computers. I killed many rooks with it many years ago.

now I solved the problem with the H2H, setting numbers in the gateway box and in the DNS. I dont know why, but now it works without internet access at home now.

I hope return soon to the arena and enjoy with all of you

bye (tucu, 101ECV)

Aces High II will not run on Voodoo video cards.  And the Pentium II CPU's do not have enough processing power to run Aces High II well, if at all.  And those systems simply do not have enough RAM to run Aces High II.

Just FYI.

yes, thank you, I know that Skuzzy

this was one experiment in order to learn to make a LAN, and try to run the game.

I have one new computer to return to the arena
