Vacationed in the DR last year (eastern most tip) with a day trip to Isla Saona for power/sail boating ... reminded me of Jamaica except the locals spoke spanish instead of patoi ... amazing beaches.

Same way Mexico does. Original missionaries converted native populations many hundreds of years ago, spreading the Spanish language.


Ironically, the Spanish spoken in Spain isn't the same as spoken in Latin America.
