I have a few question
« on: May 13, 2007, 05:27:16 PM »
now that i have been flying a few months and understand the game(a little)maybe some of you long time players can answer a few questions for me.

#1 how come we dont have AP rounds or Incendiary rounds.
these rounds were very important in P51 and was the main reason they were so deadly they were loaded in 2-1-2 fashion meaning 2AP 1tracer 2Incediary

#2 How come when 2 planes hit each other in a collision both planes dont fall out of the air.
I have been on the winning and losing side of this but it just dont seem right if 2 planes HO and collide (for sake of agument 200 mph) thats 400 mph even if you didnt die your plane would dam sure be messed up forcing you to RTB

#3 JINKING (or what ever its called) mostley zeros and spits doing crazy manuvers when your on there 6.
THERE IS NO WAY a ww2 plane ever did those manuvers and if you did them  pieces of your plane would come off

i am sure of the years others have asked these questions but i dont know what to search for to find my answers I would like to TY in advance for any answers

Because both planes are at different positions on both pilots computers. For example on your computer there is a collsion, on your enemies computer both planes pass each other by 50ft or more. This is no bug but a result of the simple fact that data only travels ad speed of light and has to be processed.

If you hit enemy on your computer, you get damage. If he collides on his computer, he gets damage. Simple & fair. There is no "winning" in a collision.

For additional information & tons of whining, use "search" button :D

In regards to 'jinking"

Here's the description of an 82nd FG P38F pilot of his move when he was getting shot at.

"Two 109s in line astern dove down right next to me then pulled up and away to the right.  I broke into them as they came down, only to find I had been suckered away from my flight which had continued to the left just above the water.

Immediately therafter two other 109s attacked me from above.  They were flying line abreast and came in at close range.   I could see their guns flashing as I looked back and up through my canopy.  At the same time two more 109s flying close together were closing in from appproximately 90 degrees directly above my canopy, firing as they came.

I was in a maximum performance turn to the left and an extreme overcontrolled skid to the right.  This was a trick I had learned and used in combat many times.  When enemy fighters were trying to hit me I would bank violently while cross controlling, standing on the inside rudder and racking the aircraft into a turn.  This caused the plane to slide sideways and fly erratically in a somewhat different flight path from what it appeared to be going.

This technique probably saved my life once again, because even though all four enemy aircraft were right on top of me, and the water below me was churning from cannon and machine gun fire, they all missed me--thank God"

Not sure if that's Jinking, but it sure sounds close :)

1 We kind of have those ammo types. If you'll notice, the 50cals seem more likely to set something on fire than most other weapons. As I understand it (and I could be incorrect on this), the effects are averaged for each round, so instead of a mix of ammo types, we have 3 types. MG rounds, HE cannon rounds, and AP cannon rounds. There have been numerous discussions about this in the past, and requests to have historically accurate loadouts.

2 Lag. The game runs on every players computer, and you either see a slightly different situation than everyone else, or you see it at a slightly different time.

3 Lag plays a part here too, and also that we aren't real men flying real planes, but rather real men trying to control cartoon planes over the net, which means we don't have to worry about fatigue, tearing up an airframe, or dying.
