Does this work and for how long?

You are attempting to defend a base and the atackers have only one base in easy reach but are showing signs of overwhelming your base soon.

If you destroy the enemy base's Barracks does this give a temporary restbite and if so for how long?

If it's really the only base in reach, it will prevent a capture unless:

- they didn't already upped one ore more goons now circling some distance away from your base
- they have a CV nearby or otw
- they bring in a goon from a base very far away - people did fly goons over 4 sectors before...

The amount of time yo gain varies. Usually, barrack pop up after about 45mins, counting from the moment the first barracks went down (That's the main reason the actual downtime is often much less)
If the enmy starts to resupply his base, troops will be up again much faster.

If enemy city AND grunt training facility is destroyed, barracks will be down for a maximum time of 2 hours.

As long as there is only one good source for troops for the attacking side, YES.

If you kill one fields troops there is a good chance they'll try to bring them in from somewhere else. Also you have to be aware that an M3 could have rolled seconds before that last barracks fell.  So its not always easy, have to remember that CV can bring in an LVT with troops also.

How long depends on a number of factors, including how recently the enemy's training strat object has been bombed. Figure 15 min minimum, with a bit of planning and cooperation you can turn that at times into 2 hours.
