Potential College Football stars

This was the Comcast/Competive Edge College football combine yesterday where college scouts from the Pacific Northwest come out and look at Freshmen and Juniors for potential football scholarships. There were a few seniors but most of them are usually offered a scholarship shortly after Feb. 6th.  The ones that make the grade in this flock of 450 kids will be offered scholarships next Feb. 6th, 2008 (granted they stay healthy and are Seniors in highschool next year.)  This is just one of many College Scout programs. There are others, like Scouts.com and Nike's program. Kids from Idaho, Oregon, and Washington were the predominate athletes.

Comast will have a 1 hour program offered next week showing this combine (1 hour long, pay-per-view)

The kids at the bottom picture set the record for the day by long jumping (from a standing position) 9 feet 10 inches!!!

Cool photos Rip. They have been doing those types of camps down here for as long as I can remember. I went to one during the summer of my junior year in high school. The only difference between then and now is they pack it all into one day. When I went to those camps then they were more of a "football" camp packed into a week and you usually went to 4-6 camps in a two month period between your junior and senior season.

I remember the first "high school combine" I ever saw was in 1992 when they came to my college during April and brought in kids from all over the southeast just to run, jump, etc... We all thought it was the craziest thing we had ever seen.
