lol. I know the first thing popped into my head: '5 Finger Discount', but now that you mention it, I can see he MIGHT just mean something else... and if he DOES in fact mean that, its an even bigger 'No'.

Serenity, mate, listen to your girlfriend.... a lot of the time chicks don't give a watermelon about money.

I have bought my girlfriend of 3 years some really awesome and really ****ing expensive birthday/christmas presents.....sure, she loved them.... but do you know the birthday present that she loved the most and remembers first time, all the time?

I was in-between jobs and totally broke, so i went to the newsagent and bought some coloured card. I spent a couple of hours making a birthday card for her. I put some photos of us in it and stuff like that.

I went to the shops and bought a bunch of her favourite lollies ('candy', for you yanks), some crackers and some cheese.

I hid all of this in the boot ('trunk'?) and went and picked her up. We grabbed some fast food (which she payed for) and I pretended make a wrong-turn towards my old house (said I was on 'auto-pilot') and took her down to the beach. It was night-time and it was cold, so I parked in a car-park that looks out to the city over the bay.

She thought I was trying to 'put the moves on her' until I got the stuff i prepared earlier out of the boot.

She absolutely loved it and it was the cheapest 'present' ever.

I didn't even ****ing pay for dinner! :lol

So, don't stress about the money, Serenity. If she's a keeper she won't care about it. Especially if it's just for a few months until you can get a job.

Chill, mate.

:rofl  (Sorry, I realised ive spent FAR too much time with Overlag, that I understood all of that without the American translations! lol)

Yeah, I just feel stupid is all. I was gonna pick her up a USAF Teddy Bear at the BX (She loves teddy bears, and it would piss her dad off because hes Army) and suddenly realised "I havnt had cash for 11 months!" (Roughly the time ive been playing AH!) Yeah. I just want to scrape together a fair bit, ive only got a year with her before her dad gets re-stationed, and im not sure where things are gonna go from there... so yeah, im just trying to give her the best time possible before she leaves.

Serenity...

(slightly off topic but the old guy in the mirror saw this and had to write)

Here is the voice of experience...

1. Chicks like to be the CENTER of attention.  They will do whatever is necessary to separate you from anything else you enjoy - be it games, friends - whatever.  It is not an evil conspiracy, it is in their DNA - they cannot help it.

2. At 14, she shouldn't expect "things" from you.  It should be obvious in your current situation that if she wants something you will have to get it from someone else. (Your Parents)

I understand that you WANT to do things for your girlfriend but at age 14 there are going to be dozens more before you get out of highschool and dozens more before you're out of college.  The good news is, you will be able to earn money soon and you will have the choice of how you wish to spend it.  The point is, you should not worry about having to buy things for a girl, when you do this, you train her to expect it - BAD BAD BAD idea.  The next girl after her might have noticed that you gave her a bunch of stuff and when you don't continue the trend with her she will use the guilt card on you for not 'caring' about her as much!

Don't worry about trying to do stuff for the girlfriend until you have EARNED your own money and can think about the gift that you want to give.  If she cannot understand that at your age, you do NOT need the hassle.

Good luck and best wishes with your USAF career and keeping that perfect record.

(now, back to the topic)

I really wish we could do the account hold thing

Fair enough mate, I can understand that.

Do what you've gotta do.

Also, keep in mind, I don't know what your bank laws and standards are over there but if you're allowed to have a savings account with an EFTPOS card. (You guys do have that, don't you?)... A bank card with a pin-code that you can't over-draw... it just has your savings on it? :huh

They have Visa Debit cards now.... so it's a credit card without the 'credit' bit. You deposit money into your Visa Savings account and you can use this to pay for things online.

I do not want a credit card, so I have one of these and it works a treat.

This would mean that you could pay for your own AH account when you get your finances in order and not rely on your parents for the CC info.

I know that my card will not over-draw with Aces High, so you don't have to worry about bogus fees and all that... (do check this with your bank though, things may be different)

Mr No Name:

Yeah, amazingly, she doesnt try to pull me away from anything. I walk away voluntarily, and she gets annoyed that I give things up for her. She doesnt expect anything, and I practically have to force her to take what I can give her, lol.

Xasthur:

I no longer HAVE a savings. Since last august, flying every week has routinely drained it down to absolutely nothing. Flight training is expensive :(
