I was on google looking up the serial number for Lt. Gray's Corsair IV when i stumbled across some weird performance figures of the FAA Corsairs.
Found 'em on spitfireperformance.com
F4U-1A FAA test, normal wing area, P&W R-2800-8 Corsair Mk.II and III FAA test 1, clipped wings, P&W R-2800-8W Corsair Mk.II and III FAA test 2, clipped wings, P&W R-2800-8W Corsair Mk.IV FAA test, clipped wings, P&W R-2800-8W I know that the Brits did use a different fuel grade in WWII for the most part, but would that grade really kill so much performance as to lower top speed to less than that of a Spitfire V? Also, I'm guessing that the last 2 tests had the higher grade octane used by the States.
