When i read of how Typhoon's and some Temps would make great diving swoops on gv's and then pull up with a lotta E and hit high G's and just looking at how thick the bloody wings are, i have come to the conclusion that our typh/temp wings rip off too easy.

Is there anyone with numbers and figures or soem other data that show's how strong/what it takes to rip off the typhoons wings, i find our's break too easy.

Laurie, the Tempest had a much thinner wing than the Typhoon.

Ive NEVER overstressed my wings off in either a Temp or Tphy.

My suggestion is when you do a pullout be gentle in building up G-forces.

Same here. Only lost wings due to enemy fire so far.

it's been one of my squaddie's, 'kev367th' thats had the problem more than me. Just find it hard to see how those fat things could break so often.

Ive found that the wings are brittle.

What I mean by that is in a gentle pullout you can max the g force out with out damaging wings. However if you do a quick pullout the g's build to quickly and.....well your ride to earth just got a little quicker. Kinda like a brick it can take alot of force under a steady load but throw it against concrete and it shatters.

The Typhoon was never the strongest aircraft in terms of pulling quick maneuvers at uberly high speed. In fact the tailplane often ripped off hence the need for those 'fishplates' you see reinforcing the a/c. The Tempest, being a direct derivative of the Typhoon, was no different. The wings though, were now of thin, elliptical laminar flow design which allowed it to dive faster without buffet - dive so fast, it could reach speeds which the original Typhoon airframe was never designed.

The very first typhoons had manufacturing faults because the parts were made by contractors not until hawker brought all production in house did the reliability improve.

A good read is Tempest Pilot by Jimmy sheridan.

Hulse check this book out if you have some spare cash I know you love your tiffie. Should be able to find a cheap used copy on amazon.

I would send you mine but it is good and I'm building a nice little collection.

As for wings breaking off in steep dives my tiffie has never done that for me. Not going to mention pilot error but in any steep dive make sure throttle is back and you give yourself enough ALT and Smoothly pull out.

Stick scaling etc?

However I do support you on any improvement to British planes.

The typh needs damage model redone too. It loses oil/radiator/engine to ack sooo often compared to many 'newer' planes in AH.
